Community Helps to Save Dogs Lives

A very large group of people and dogs joined together in support of Operastion Greyhound's sixteeen years rescuing greyhounds.

[ClickPress, Fri Jun 22 2007] Over 150 people and at least 100 dogs cascaded across acres of grounds with majestic mountain views to celebrate 16 years of Operation Greyhound’s work rescuing retired racing greyhounds. Attendees enjoyed silent auctions, live auction – historic automobiles- even contests for everyone imaginable. There were winners for most handsome – best diva - most look alike between adopter and dog –best costume. Families and groups came from many parts of California pitching tents, ex-pens and umbrellas to enjoy the day. There was music, singing and dancing provided by a wonderful D.J., himself an adopter of three greyhounds.

“It was so much fun, it seemed like a carnival,” commented Jeri Linder, Oceanside, CA. And the Hudson family from Chula Vista, CA added, “This family-oriented picnic with everyone enjoying themselves – humans and dogs alike – it was the best ever!”

Bob and Bruna Palmatier, founders of Operation Greyhound, were very pleased with the outcome on June 3, 2007. The gross profit raised in support of continued greyhound rescue was just over $17,000. At the picnic, four dogs that were waiting for their new forever homes were adopted.

“Every dog that we can save takes us that much closer to reducing the number killed and increasing the number of happy owners. Greyhounds are very loving animals, usually with laid-back dispositions. They make wonderful additions to a home and give back in love ten-fold. Many of our adopters have two or three greyhounds along with animals of all kinds, cats, birds, or other dogs. We support the idea of rescuing animals, it’s a win-win situation for everyone; we are just happy to be part of that. And for us, our mission is to rescue greyhounds.”
