[ClickPress, Wed Jun 27 2007] Data storage specialist, Defuturo is launching a remote backup service called Ewedrive (http://www.ewedrive.com) for home/personal PC users who don't have wool over their eyes about increasing the resilience of their data and want to gain access to it from anywhere, hassle-free, without any security concerns.

Ewedrive has a highly competitive pricing scheme with fees based on a pay-as-you-go model, rather than a monthly subscription. Users can buy disk space for as little as five pence per gigabyte for one week, or obtain unlimited storage space from £1.90 a week (less than a lamb kebab). There are no file size limits or extra charges for data transfer or bandwidth usage. Additionally, all new Ewedrive users will be given 1GB of disk space free of charge.

Ewedrive's file transfer system is built around the drag and drop capabilities of WebDAV, natively supported in Windows, Apple and Linux computers, meaning there's no software for users to install before they start backing up data.

Additionally, Ewedrive comes with a comprehensive online file manager, through which files can also be drag and dropped, and including features such as tagging and private/public file sharing. So, customers could use Ewedrive for collaborative working or simply to share their photos, audio/video files or other documents from wherever they have a web browser and internet connection.

Crucially, file transfers are secured over 256-bit SSL across both WebDAV and the browser based system. Thankfully, not even a user's own ISP can snoop on uploads and downloads between Ewedrive and the individual's computer.

The pièce de résistance, however, is a remote download manager which lets users download and save content from popular file sharing services directly to their online drive. Furthermore, archived files can be unRARed and unzipped on-the-move, enabling users to decompress and stream audio and video to a media player, wherever and whenever, without ever needing to download to a local computer.

Paresh Morjaria at Defuturo says: "People have an increasing appetite for file storage locally and then they tend to start looking at offsite backup as a way of increasing the resilience of their data as well as giving them more 'global' accessibility of vital files. This is where Ewedrive comes in...there's no need to be a lamb to the slaughter where losing precious data is concerned when our storage system is so easy to use and reasonably priced."

Notes for editors

Ewedrive's core technical and management team has provided internet services since 1997. Previous success stories include: MetroNet Internet Services, which gave Londoners freephone internet access before moving on to pay-as-you-go broadband and hosting, and specialist email for small business; Just The Name (JTN), the bargain domain registration service; and Desktop on Demand (DOD). The data storage service, Ewedrive, was born in June 2007 out of feedback from users of DOD.
