Generally lasting for seven days but sometimes longer the Tra Co Village Festival will take place from 30th May to 7th June 2011 and combines sacred rituals with lively festivities.

A key part of the event is the boat procession which honours Quan He, the pheasant leader who rose to fame during the Le-Trinh era. The ships sail back to his original home in Do Son and this is where the people of Tra Co also originate from.

The following day crowds gather and form another procession to carry the king to the shrine which is a parade of music, orchestras and all different kinds of people going down to the sea. Other rituals include a flower dance where people pray and offer flowers to ask the genies for things like good luck, health and even a bountiful catch when out fishing.

The festival is worth the trip along the coast for people checked into a Danang hotel as there’s the chance to eat delicious local food and gaze at the mouth watering dishes that are prepared by the best chefs in the cooking competition.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "The village is totally packed for the festival so bookings at hotels will need to be made well in advance."
