Netintelligence is keeping it clean for Carphone Warehouse
Glasgow-based internet security firm Netintelligence has been shortlisted for a major UK technology award after designing a bespoke product allowing Carphone Warehouse to guarantee all its refurbished handsets are free of inappropriate content like pornography.
[ClickPress, Mon Jul 09 2007] The technology – Ni Mobile Content Manager – lets the mobile phone retailer check and certify a handset every 40 seconds against a master fingerprint of factory settings, and ensures any content added by the previous user is deleted.
Manual checking and restoration had proven to be a fallible process, with human error a problem as refurbished handsets could be given to customers without having been cleaned and restored to match the original manufacturer’s factory settings. Netintelligence’s solution now gives Carphone Warehouse cast-iron quality assurance and a robust audit trail.
As a result Netintelligence, headquartered at the West of Scotland Science Park, has been named a finalist in the Retail & Leisure Sector Technology Project of the Year at the UK Business Technology Awards, the results of which will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Park Lane Hilton in London this September.
Netintelligence has also been nominated for UK Technology Partnership of the Year for its flagship product Safekeeper, a software product which allows parents to actively control their children’s use of the internet, including remotely monitoring home computers from anywhere in the world.
Netintelligence partnered with US software publishing firm Third Gear, which had identified a need in the retail market for a very consumer friendly ‘all in one’ parental control and internet security product that would appeal to the ‘non pc literate’ consumer. Third Gear has an outstanding retail pedigree and was keen to benefit from Netintelligence’s technological expertise.
Phil Worms, Netintelligence director, said: “Each of these products was designed very much with practical solutions in mind, and it’s fantastic that our success has been recognised in these nominations.
“We’re really proud to be flying the flag for Scotland against world-renowned brands, and we think it’s proof of the immense talent that we have in this country that Netintelligence is being acknowledged at this level.”
