British National Health Service makes DermaSilk® Therapeutic Clothing available on Prescription
DermaSilk Therapeutic Clothing has been approved for inclusion on the UK Drug Tariff. This range of silk undergarments has been clinically proven to be more effective than traditional cotton garments in alleviating the "itch/scratch" cycle associated with eczema and dermatitis.
[ClickPress, Tue Jul 10 2007] From August 1st 2007, part of the DermaSilk® Therapeutic Clothing range will be available for dermatologists, nurses and doctors in the United Kingdom to prescribe in cases of atopic dermatitis and eczema. The PPA (Prescription Pricing Authority) has approved the children’s range, plus the tubular sleeves and gloves for use by both children and adults, for inclusion on the Drug Tariff.
This exciting announcement was made at the BAD (British Association of Dermatology) Annual Meeting at the Birmingham International Conference Centre on July 10th. Espère Healthcare Ltd is the exclusive distributor for DermaSilk in the UK and Ireland, and is also responsible for marketing the products in the USA and Canada. Co-director Chris Steeples commented as follows, “These products have only been available in Britain since last September and they’ve already built up a very strong following. In fact, virtually every single dermatology nurse and community nurse that we’ve spoken to has been asking when they’ll be available on prescription! I’m delighted that the NHS has approved DermaSilk so quickly. These undergarments are very comfortable and children are happy to wear them. PPA approval means a lot to us, but it also means a lot for children with eczema and their families.”
The complete list of DermaSilk products approved by the PPA is as follows:
• Bodysuit with folding gloves (sizes from newborn up to 4 years)
• Infant leggings (sizes from newborn up to 4 years)
• Pyjamas (sizes from 3 years up to 12 years)
• Facial mask (sizes for infants and children up to age 10)
• Gloves (for children aged 4 upwards and adults)
• Tubular sleeves (one size fits both children and adults)
DermaSilk Therapeutic Clothing is registered in Europe as a Class 1 Medical Device, and published clinical trials have demonstrated its effectiveness in helping patients with skin disorders reduce the itching and scratching associated with eczema and contact dermatitis. DermaSilk® Therapeutic Clothing is available in the USA and Canada direct from Espère Healthcare Ltd in England.
