[ClickPress, Thu Jul 12 2007] Continuing with an already busy summer, THE SHAKE has been booked to open for The Mooney Suzuki at New York City’s Mercury Lounge on Wednesday, July 18th. This will be the third performance for The Shake at this A-list Manhattan venue.
Playing with The Mooney Suzuki is something of a dream come true for THE SHAKE. Says frontman Jon Merkin, “Their album Electric Sweat was amazing. They remain one of the only bands I’ve gotten into just from seeing them live once. I love their look, sound, all of it. They're the sort of band I want The Shake to be.” Lead guitarist Eliad Shapiro agrees: “I love how their sound really is pure rock and roll. We feel a certain kinship with them given that they're a New York City band that shares a similar philosophy about what rock music is supposed to be: simple, straightforward and attention-grabbing while still maintaining some pop sensibilities.”
This is the first time these two bands will share a stage, but hopefully not the last. “The Shake would love to tour with The Mooney Suzuki,” Merkin added. “I really think we could whip the crowd into a frenzy by opening shows for them and pave the way for The Mooneys to take the stage and rock the house!”
In the meantime, The Shake continues to play the hottest area clubs in support of their recently released debut CD, Kick It. On Tuesday, August 7th, the band returns to The Knitting Factory to headline the night following a set by Band of Thieves, the latest NYC buzz-band and MySpace success story.
Look for The Shake in the current issue of Magnet Magazine, and hear their song “Let Me Take You Far Away” in the new Robin Williams/Mandy Moore film “License To Wed.” Stay tuned for details on their first music video for the track “Manic Boogie,” shot just last week and currently being edited. Details to follow.
