TV producer starts second "permanent production" series
Specialist leisure producer Serious Leisure TV is to start new boating series on Information TV, Sky 167, after success of "The Caravan Channel" show.
[ClickPress, Fri Jul 13 2007] At 6.30pm on the 1st of August, 2007, satellite broadcaster Information TV (Sky 167) will show the first programme of a new fortnightly "permanent production" series, "UK Boating".
The programme will initially focus on all aspects of boats and boating in the UK and Europe, and gradually increase its coverage of areas where it finds most response. It's producer and programme-1 presenter is Chris Gosling, who already presents "The Caravan Channel" on the same network, and it's his company, Serious Leisure TV which produces both shows.
"Boating is a pastime and recreation that many people take seriously, and enjoy immensely,", says Gosling. "We're bringing the same kind of real-life reporting to our show which has proved popular on our caravanning programme; we look at things from a practical, sensible viewpoint, without trying to be flashy, funny or smart."
He added, "Many productions which try to cater for minority audiences end up with a slightly cynical or mocking tone - frequently because the TV companies think using someone trendy - like a comedian or 'personality' - will increase popularity and widen the audience. In fact, this often alienates the real core audience, and they are the people we want to talk to."
In personal note, Gosling also stated his boating credentials: "I was among the first batch of people to gain a yachtmaster's offshore theory certificate in Ipswich, around 35 years ago," he said, "and since then I've sailed many thousands of miles in my own and other people's boats!" He also spend a continous 12 travelling on a small yacht around the UK and into the French canals in 2000, and enjoyed a 3 month trip on UK canals in 2003.
UK Boating shows on Information TV, Sky channel 167, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6.30pm, and on Sunday at 1pm. The first programme is due for transmission on Wednesday, 1st August, and there'll be a new programme every fortnight after that.
