[ClickPress, Thu Jul 19 2007] Taillardat of France — a cabinetmaking company specialising in high-quality 18th century-style furniture — is expanding internationally and has just opened a showroom in New York and a shop in Moscow. The company is boosting its operations in the UK, where it is already represented, with a view to increasing sales of its unique furniture range.

The Bréville chest of drawers is both designed and manufactured by Taillardat, which runs a dedicated workshop in Orléans (a city situated between Paris and the Loire Valley). Made of fine mahogany, the Bréville stands on four fluted feet finished with bronze caps; a bronze gallery encircles the wooden top. Bréville’s originality resides in the number of drawers it has (three small ones at the top and three large ones across its width) and in its dimensions — with a height of 99cm, width of 130cm, and depth of 55cm (i.e., in inches: H 39/W 51/D 22).

Taillardat will be celebrating its 20 years’ anniversary in October 2007. The 18th century style has influenced most of Ms Micheline Taillardat's creations. She gets her inspiration from original drawings from the period in order to make the spirit of the Age of Enlightenment — French art's moment of perfection — live again through the company’s range of chairs and other furniture.

Taillardat's catalogue includes around 250 models, some of which are totally unique designs made to order. The furniture is made and assembled in a traditional way (relying on dovetails, mortices, tenons, etc.), while the carving is done entirely by hand in solid wood.

The different timbers that Taillardat uses are rigorously selected and include beech, oak, cherry, and Honduran mahogany, among many others. An array of colours are available and they include the Trianon, Opéra and Floréal ranges of painted wood, as well as deep beech, wild cherry, light mahogany, ruby, and ebonised wood tints, together with a variety of hues of leather. All of these are combined to suit writing desks, bookcases, tables, easy chairs, and more. The possibilities are infinite.

Colours and shades are finely worked in the workshop in order to obtain subtle and warm nuances, as are the waxes and sheens. The French-polish finish, which gives furniture its glowing and antique look, is one of Taillardat’s specialities.

Taillardat boasts innumerable clients around the world with, among them, many famous luxury hotels (such as Relais & Châteaux), prestigious government offices, residential palaces, and luxurious private homes. Taillardat’s furniture range is exhibited in two showrooms: one in Paris (in France) and one in New York (in the USA), both open to the trade.

About Taillardat

Taillardat designs and manufactures high-quality furniture in the Louis XVI-style. The Taillardat range comprises over 200 pieces to date and is a model of French refinement, in the best cabinetmaking tradition.

Taillardat, which was founded in 1987, has offices and a showroom in Paris, but the company’s workshop remains located in Orléans (to the south of the French capital).

On 1 May 2007, the company opened a new showroom in New York (in the USA) and a shop in Moscow (in Russia). From 16 to 21 October 2007, the company will take part in the Week of Décor exhibition in Moscow in order to showcase its prestigious production.
