[ClickPress, Tue Jul 24 2007] Established in the first century BC, falconry conjures up images of nobility and the upper classes from a time now long since past. This ancient past time of the great and the good has recently been enjoying a comeback and is now a popular activity for a broad spectrum of sportsmen and enthusiasts.
One hotel that has witnessed the burgeoning interest in falconry activities is the Murray Arms Hotel, part of the Cally Estate in Gatehouse of Fleet. In response to this increased interest, the Murray Arms Hotel has teamed up with Galloway Falconry – one of the regions foremost falconry centres – to give guests a chance to handle these majestic birds of prey giving them an experience they will never forget.
Uniquely offering its guests everything from a one hour ‘hawk walk’ to a short break with half, full or multiple days of falconry activities, or even a full blown five day Lantra Award course, the Murray Arms Hotel has something for every level of sportsman.
Of particular interest to seasoned falconers is the unique tie between the Murray Arms Hotel and Galloway Falconry. Galloway Falconry is the only falconry centre in Scotland to offer the Lantra award scheme – a voluntary training scheme that aims to instil standards of self-regulation and safety across the sport as it grows in popularity. The Murray Arms Hotel has uniquely teamed up with the centre, allowing guests to bring their own birds of prey for falconry breaks and Lantra Award training on the stunning grounds of the Cally Estate.
Peter Murray Usher, owner of the Murray Arms Hotel is delighted with the recent tie up with Galloway Falconry. ‘The Cally Estate offers some of the most beautiful falconry grounds in Dumfries and Galloway. We are delighted to be able to share our grounds and enthusiasm with Galloway Falconry so that together we can introduce even more people to this incredible sporting past time, ensuring that enthusiasm for the sport goes hand in hand with responsible handling of these majestic birds.’
Falconry breaks at the Murray Arms Hotel start at Ł199 per person for a two day break with half-day falconry course, dinner, bed and breakfast, welcome drink upon arrival, packed lunch and transport to and from the falconry grounds on the Cally Estate. There are one, two and five day courses available. Hawk Walks are available for Ł20 per person to any guests of the Murray Arms Hotel; minimum six person group applies to Hawk Walks.
