Veteran appellate lawyer who argued for the justices to take the case available for comment

Kent Richland, a highly regarded appeals lawyer in the appellate firm Greines Martin Stein & Richland, will argue on Smith’s behalf in early 2006. He persuaded the high court to hear the case based on whether a federal court in one state may hear a claim that also is embroiled in probate proceedings in another state, or even in the same state.
