[ClickPress, Tue Jul 24 2007] South Carolina has dominated the rankings in a major poll that included some very tough competition – the finest places to pay for an overnight stay in the United States and Canada.
In the 2007 list of “Top 100 Hotels in the Continental U.S. and Canada” by Travel + Leisure magazine, three of the top 10 spots were awarded to destinations in South Carolina, and two more were in the top 50.
Coming in at No. 2 on the list was the Woodlands Resort & Inn in Summerville just inland from Charleston, followed by The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort on the ocean just south of Charleston at No. 5 and the Planters Inn in the heart of downtown Charleston at No. 7.
The Inn at Palmetto Bluff on a marsh-lined coastal river near Bluffton and Hilton Head Island was ranked No. 34 in the United States and Canada by the discerning respondents, while, back in historic Charleston, the Wentworth Mansion was ranked 40th.
The list was compiled by surveys the prestigious magazine sent to a select group of subscribers who rated the hotels and inns on their rooms, restaurants and food service, facilities and overall service.
