Latest news on East Yorkshire's upcoming music festival - Tribfest
[ClickPress, Wed Jul 25 2007] The countdown is underway for East Yorkshire’s first major music festival of its kind.
Thousands of people are expected to attend the first ever Tribfest in the area – a weekend music extravaganza featuring 18 of Europe’s top tribute bands.
The Glastonbury-style event takes place at Driffield Showground on 18th and 19th August – with festival-goers encouraged to arrive on site on Friday August 17th, when the fun kicks off with a welcome party and entertainment.
A launch event featuring the Antarctic Monkeys, a tribute to the Arctic Monkeys, is being staged at The Crown on Holderness Road, Hull, on Wednesday August 8th from 8pm to give music lovers in the area a taste of what Tribfest is all about. Tickets cost £5 and are available on the door.
Festival director Eddy Faulkner, of Ed Entertainments, said: “We want to show music lovers what a treat they’re going to be in for at Tribfest, so we’re having a launch event at The Crown on August 8th featuring one of the bands that will be playing at the festival. Antarctic Monkeys are reckoned to be the top UK tribute band to the Arctic Monkeys, so it should be a great evening. Viking FM will be there, and there’ll be lots of giveaways.”
Organisers of Tribfest are hoping that we’ve seen the last of the bad weather and that the clouds will lift for the festival.
“With a lot of events cancelled this summer due to adverse weather conditions, we are hoping the sun will shine on Tribfest, and give us all a fantastic weekend of music and fun,” said Eddy Faulkner.
“Tickets are selling really well, and if this year’s Tribfest is a success, it could become a permanent fixture on the calendar. This is the first weekend festival of its kind in East Yorkshire, so we are hoping everyone will vote with their feet and come along to Tribfest for a great weekend’s worth of entertainment.”
Over the weekend, up to 5,000 people are expected to attend the festival, which will include tributes to The Beatles, Robbie Williams, The Beautiful South, The Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, David Bowie, Oasis, The Sex Pistols, The Jam and Madness.
A big screen alongside the stage – funded by East Riding Council – will add to the atmosphere and entertainment of Tribfest.
Hundreds of MINI owners are expected at the festival to celebrate the sixth birthday of the new MINI after organisers of Tribfest teamed up with Stratstone MINI Hull and the MINI Owners’ Club to offer the enthusiasts a birthday celebration to remember.
And visitors to the festival will also come face-to-face with a string of celebrity lookalikes from Britney Spears, Laurel and Hardy, and Ringo Starr to David Brent, Sven Goran Erikson and Marilyn Monroe.
Channel 4 TV are due to film at the event.
“We’ve got a wide range of entertainment lined up for all the family,” added Eddy Faulkner.
Local businesses have got behind the venture and are sponsoring individual bands, as well as other sections of the festival.
Part of the proceeds of Tribfest will be going to Viking FM’s For the Kids charity.
Tribfest gates open at noon on Friday August 17th with the first band kicking off at noon on Saturday August 18th. Camping is available for festival-goers, and is free with a weekend pass.
Get a group together and you’ll benefit from the current special offer – buy ten tickets and only pay for nine.
