The fair is part of the Hamburg Summer Beer Festival which mixes exciting rides with a collection of beer tents where thirsty drinkers can try various local beers as well as rarer imported varieties. Within the fair is everything that a classic carnival should be, with bobbing horse carousels, bumper cars and stalls which will test a person’s skill and luck. The centre piece is the grand Ferris wheel which towers above everything and provides great views of the city.

Visitors can also get their fortunes told, see daring acrobatics in the show tents, and the children will love the clowns and magic shows. One day a week is usually specially designed for families with jugglers, acrobats, fire-eaters, a well as artists ready to create balloon shaped animals and paint faces.

Travelling from cheap Hamburg hotels visitors will need to head to Heiligengeistfeld between 29th July and 28th August 2011. The festival, also called The Dom by many, has a fireworks display scheduled each Friday which starts from around 22:30. The attractions themselves open in the afternoon everyday and usually go until 23:00 or midnight at the weekend.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "Finding accommodation is more complicated over the fair as so many people come to visit that it’s usually best to search for availability online."
