ActionAid Recycling's latest Mobile Phone Amnesty event has started and for every mobile phone or PDA you recycle through the appeal, not only will you be helping to protect the environment, you'll also be raising fund for the charity ActionAid and be in with the chance to win GREAT PRIZES!
[ClickPress, Fri Aug 03 2007] According to current statistics, mobile phone users in the UK are replacing their handsets on average every 18 months.
It is estimated that there are in the region of 90 million mobile phones and PDAs lying unused in the UK alone, and this figure is set to
increase as people upgrade their handsets for new and better features.
Mobiles and PDAs have become fashion accessories, and this is accellerating the demise of perfectly good equipment.
The components in these kinds of equipment can take centuries to break down if put in landfill, and can leach dangerous toxins into the ground.
Recycling stops you from adding to this problem.
By taking part in the Mobile Phone Amnesty you will also be raising funds for ActionAid (registered charity 274467) to assist with its work with
over 13 million of the world's poorest people.
Until the end of October, if you send unwanted mobile phones and PDAs to ActionAid Recycling via the Mobile Phone Amnesty website you will be
entered into a prize draw for every one you send - the more you recycle, the more chances you have to win! From asking friends and family for
their old handsets to running a handset collection at work, there are many ways to support this appeal. Even if you only donate one handset
that's been sitting in your drawer for years, you'll still be helping to protect the environment and supporting ActionAid's work - and still be
in with a chance to win a prize, or course! The handsets don't even have to work.
