[ClickPress, Mon Aug 06 2007] Transfer paper which can be used on dark fabrics can open up huge new markets for people who are already making money designing and selling personalized or branded T-shirts online, says leading heat transfer paper suppliers, New Milford Photo.

Traditionally, transfer paper used to be the preserve of white cotton T-shirts only. However, the printing and transfer industry has boomed and now everyone is on the internet, selling their own T-shirt designs all over the world. Revolutionary new transfer papers have been developed to work on almost any fabric, including stretchy fabrics and rib knits. However, the traditional requirement for transfers to be applied to light fabrics in order for the colors to show through properly has been transformed by the introduction of ‘one-step’ dark transfer paper.

Transferring onto darker fabrics used to require a deft hand. The old two-step method, of transferring your design onto opaque fabric with a removable backing, which is then applied to the dark T-shirt, has led to the development of ‘one-step’ varieties of transfer paper which eliminates the need for transferring onto the opaque layer of material first. This gives an excellent, smoother result, making this paper just as good as any currently on the market for lighter fabrics.

John LaPerch, director of New Milford Photo, says “The ability to produce great transfer results on darker fabrics will appeal to huge new markets of people who might not otherwise have bought T-shirts online. Niche groups can be catered for, and this paper will also work well on dark bags and fabric accessories.”

The one-step variety of dark transfer paper is as easy to use as traditional light varieties. Designs can be printed off very easily from a home computer using an inkjet or laser printer, directly onto the transfer paper, which can then be applied to the fabric using a standard iron. The paper is very durable and results last between 40 to 50 washes. John adds, “different effects can be created; if you peel off the transfer paper when hot, you will achieve a matt finish, and if peeled when cool, a glossy image will appear.”
