Clare T.D. and Minister of State for Environmental and Energy, Mr. Tony Killeen today said he would be making every effort to ensure that the Government provides the necessary support to the campaign aimed at retaining direct services from Shannon to Heathrow.

He explained that such support from the Government was of paramount importance, on foot of its responsibility for balanced regional development.

Minister Killeen also commended Shannon Development Co. for coordinating the evidence of industry and tourism in the West of Ireland in support of the campaign to ensure the continuation of Shannon Heathrow services.

"It is vital that verifiable and reliable data be collated to illustrate the strategic value of the Heathrow link", stated Minister Killeen.

He added, "We must move quickly to ensure either that Aer Lingus continues to serve the Shannon-Heathrow route or target another carrier to take up this attractive base of 350,000 passengers and build on it."

"I am very pleased that the Mayor of Clare, Cllr. Patricia McCarthy and Clare County Council are playing such a key role in the campaign and I will make every effort to ensure that Government provides support on foot of its responsibility for balanced regional development", concluded Minister Killeen.
