Davis, Jr., speaking through his publicist stated, "The collection of poetry is my way of showing the greatest appreciation of our Beautiful, Black women. I find their positive, and the not-so-positive shades of their personalities, and their ever-changing moods to be overwhelmingly attractive." The book follows on the heels of a poem Davis, Jr., published in "Black Forum" magazine in 1978.

Several of the poems explore the core essence of the spirit and thoughts definitively distinctive of the Black Woman. One poem, "Being Black is Where It's At," offers a thought-provoking monologue. Vernon Davis Jr., writes, "Then she spoke softly and slowly. 'Realize this, that Black is here and Black is now. The world is affected by Black style. Black is life; Black is eternal. Yet, realization is still for a while because we are not where we ought to be. We are not living within the realms of reality'."
