Plymouth University's Best Computing Graduate Receives Recognition

Darren Rees wins the 2007 Revell Research Systems Prize at the University of Plymouth

[ClickPress, Tue Oct 09 2007] Darren Rees, from Llantwit Major in South Wales, has been awarded the Revell Research Systems Prize at the University of Plymouth for being the top final year student to graduate from the university’s BSc(Hons) Computing programme in 2007.

Mr Rees received the prize at a special ceremony held in Exeter on Wednesday, 3rd October 2007 from Chartered IT Professional, Alastair Revell, the founder and managing consultant of the Devon-based management and technology consulting practice, which awards the prize annually.

Alastair Revell, said: “I am delighted that Darren Rees has been awarded the 2007 prize. I understand from his tutor, Dr Nigel Barlow, that he is a very talented programmer. I would like to wish him the very best as he starts his career in computing.”

Mr Rees, who is interested in pursuing a career in the highly competitive games industry, was also cited on the Dean of Technology’s List of Academic Excellence in 2007 at the University, which lists those students whose academic record has been exemplary during the year.

Revell Research Systems established the prize at the university to mark its 21st year in business last year. The consultancy’s Business Development Manager, Fiona Burgess explained that “the prize helps the top student to stand out from the crowd in such a way that it makes their first steps into the professional world easier.”

Professor Pat Pearce, the university’s Associate Dean of Technology, said: “At Plymouth, we pride ourselves in ensuring that our computing degrees are relevant to the current and future needs of the IT industry and we are delighted to see this recognised in the form of industry-sponsored student prizes.”

Alastair Revell BSc(Hons) FIAP MBCS CITP is the Managing Consultant of Revell Research Systems and a Chartered IT Professional. He established Revell Research Systems in 1985 in Exeter.
