Blind MBA Online Student Sets Sights High at Virginia College Online

[ClickPress, Mon Oct 29 2007] Lonzo Hall will graduate from Virginia College this December with an online MBA degree, and it's even more impressive when you learn that Hall is legally blind. The 53 year-old student is proud of completing a journey he began as the result of a dare from a close friend.
“Some people think that because they've got a disability, they just can't do things and they don't even try. I say to those people, look at the positives in your life. You may be blind or have some other disability, but you can still get up in the morning. There are some out there who would love to be able to just do that. There is always something to be grateful for.”
Lonzo Hall has appreciated the many opportunities he's had since going legally blind at seventeen after a bout with spinal meningitis. He attended a high school for the blind, received a business degree from a traditional college and then started his own business. Several years passed before the challenge from a friend to pursue an MBA online after hearing an advertisement for the Virginia College MBA online program. Hall enrolled in the program in 2005 and excelled from the beginning.
Lonzo Hall has certainly used his online MBA to great advantage. He currently owns his own business, FreeStoreClub.com and is a successful business owner. “I have had such a rewarding life, and I can never complain. I've done so much, but there's still so much left to do.”
More online schools offer special accommodations for the disabled every year, and Hall was able to take all of the standard classes offered in the MBA program using specialized equipment for the blind on his home computer. “Getting my MBA online has been an interesting experience; it's amazing now what software is available to make it possible for me and others with the same disability pursue a higher education,” observes Hall.
Hall knows that the education he received has been particularly valuable for him as a blind businessman. His gratitude shows in his efforts to help those around him. “Always notice the people around you, the people you come into contact with, because you simply never know when they need you in their lives to bring them up,” says Hall. “I tell everyone to go for what they know; find their niche. Once you have an education, keep your head up and use what you have to succeed.”
Online schools offer lots of advantages to non-traditional students like Lonzo Hall, who returned to get his MBA as a blind student when he was in his fifties. Older students are pursuing business degrees through Internet programs. These programs can also be a real help for disabled students who may have difficulty in a more traditional university setting. Getting an advanced degree is no longer limited by disabilities. For more information on Virginia College's online programs visit http://www.vconline.edu .
