Radio stations across the USA offered chance to raise money for charity with Christmas song.
[ClickPress, Mon Nov 12 2007] Country radio got it's Christmas Wish today in the form of a non-political, no-tinsel Christmas song raising funds for charity.
The song - "The Christmas Wish" - features children from a tiny school who are desperately trying to raise funds for equipment and trips.
Songwriters Dawn and John Lewis signed over the royalties for the recording; their label, Coquet Shack Records, signed over the profits from sales of the CD, and John Lewis (who takes lead vocals and provides the backing on the song) is donating his performance royalties to the cause.
Lewis said: "In essence, every single penny of sales goes straight to the school."
Now the children of Ingleton CE Primary School are hoping the song will get some airtime in the USA.
"Getting the song available to radio was the crucial move and we've had some huge help from friends in the business," said Lewis
"It's now available as a legal download for radio from Newmusicserver which is one of the best download services in the world."
Sales of the song are already surprising Lewis.
"We put it on advance sale to the children's parents and had sold half the copies we'd had pressed were sold within two hours. Now the school has more orders and we may have to arrange a second, larger pressing.
"People have also been buying it as a download from the song's web site (www.christmas-wish.org) and it's available through ITunes UK and Napster (Worldwide). It'll be on ITunes USA in a few days."
