McCar Homes Greenville Dedicates Habitat House

Last week began with an emotional start as the staff of the McCar Homes Greenville division proudly celebrated the dedication of a Habitat for Humanity home in Travelers Rest at Travelers Gate.

[ClickPress, Tue Jan 29 2008] Last week began with an emotional start as the staff of the McCar Homes Greenville division proudly celebrated the dedication of a Habitat for Humanity home in Travelers Rest at Travelers Gate. The entire McCar Homes Greenville staff, more than 50 people, were involved with the project, which began in August of last year. The staff raised over $60,000 to help fund the project and has donated more than 150 volunteer hours to construct the 1,300 square foot home, located in Greenville County.

These efforts have made the dream of homeownership come true for a single mother with five children. The four bedroom, two bathroom home was earned by the mother and her children, who performed the 250 hours of “sweat equity” into building their home and the homes of others that Habitat requires.

“None of us will forget the emotional connection we made throughout this project, from the planning phase to finally seeing the family be able to move in; it’s hard to find words to describe how fulfilling this process has been for our team,” said Brenda Land, Land Development Coordinator. “I have truly enjoyed the opportunity to do this, and I can’t wait to start on another project.”

The dedication, celebrated by approximately 85 attendees, was held at The Channel, with catering by Caterer’s Two and entertainment by Jethro's Advice.

Chartered in 1985, Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County is dedicated to providing affordable homeownership opportunities to low-income families in Greenville County.
