Killeen Urges Ennis Town Council To Assess Need For Junction Improvements At Corrovorin

The Clare T.D. explained that the provision of a roundabout or traffic lights at the junction would significantly improve access to the main Tulla Road for residents of Corrovorin.

He added that any improvements to the busy intersection would also enhance the safety of motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

"I have contacted the Ennis Town Engineer concerning the need to conduct an assessment of the level of traffic exiting the Corrovorin area on to the main Tulla Road during the peak morning period", indicated Minister Killeen.

He added, "I am aware that an assessment of the need to upgrade the junction by way of installation of traffic lights or a roundabout was conducted in 2007 and deemed unwarranted. Since then, however, the Ennis Bypass interchange with the Tulla Road has become operational and this has led to a variation in traffic impact on the Tulla Road. Therefore, I am delighted that Ennis Town Council has accepted my request to conduct another assessment at peak morning period."

He added, "I am very aware of the demand for better and safer access to the main road by residents of Corrovorin. Residents have expressed concern over the safety implications of large numbers of vehicles accessing the main Tulla Road during peak periods. The development of a roundabout or introduction of traffic lights, they say, would improve road safety, as well as the overall traffic flow in the locality."

In a written response to Minister Killeen, the Ennis Town Engineer said, "I propose that a similar assessment be carried out at the Corrovorin junction as was carried out in 2007. I will arrange for this reassessment as soon as possible with a view to establishing if amended junction controls are warranted in the present circumstances."
