BUMPER COLLECTION FROM KIND-HEARTED RESIDENTS

Published: Tue Mar 20 2012

Generous residents in Worksop have donated over 800 balls of wool to make clothes for premature babies who have passed away.

The Co-operative Funeralcare in Gateford Road set up a collection in July 2011 for Lisa’s Stars, a charity set up by mum-of-two Lisa Davies after she lost five babies and found that the only clothes available in the right size were dolls’ clothes.

The donated wool is sent to Lisa’s network of volunteers who knit booties, coats and hats to send onto hospitals for bereaved families.

Joanna Jackson, Funeral Arranger, became friends with Lisa in 2008 when both were pregnant but Lisa sadly lost her little girl.

When the Wales-based charity was set up Joanna suggested that the Worksop home could accept donations of wool.

Joanna said: "People have seen our appeal and have been so generous, one lady also knitted some little outfits which we sent to the charity.
"When they are going through such a traumatic time parents shouldn’t have to worry about what clothes their baby is going to wear. The wool has been gratefully received by Lisa’s Stars and we are still collecting for them."

Lisa, from South Wales, sends wool to her area representatives who then send it onto knitting volunteers across the UK. When the clothing is finished it is sent back to Lisa who sends it on to hospitals. Lisa has already sent some clothes to Mansfield’s Kingsmill Hospital.

If anyone would like to donate wool simply drop into the funeral home at 227-229 Gateford Road or telephone 01909 472271.
