To Work or Travel? That Is The Question

Plumbworld has one of the lowest staff turnover rates in the industry. This is partly down to the great working conditions they provide their staff and partly thanks to the ever-expanding nature of the online bathroom business. As the business grows, opportunities continue to arise from within the organisation and this makes it the perfect platform to launch or further a career.

Tim Hodge, 22 from Evesham started at Plumbworld in November of 2011 when he was offered a place in the Marketing department. Fresh out of University, Tim was extremely keen to get money coming in and enthusiastic about the job at hand. Whatever challenge was thrown at him, he adapted and conquered it with no trouble at all; whether it was a 2,000 product upload or a Twitter question about bath panels – he had it covered.

At the start of August he announced that he was going to be leaving Plumbworld at the end of the month in order to pursue his dream and travel around Europe.
"Travelling is something I’ve always wanted to do; I know I wouldn’t be happy if I looked back on my life at 60 and hadn’t been to all the places I want to see. I felt that this was the perfect time to take off on my travels as I haven’t fully invested in a career and I’m still young. I’d have loved to stay at Plumbworld as it was an extremely enjoyable job and the people I worked with made it great – but, there are some things in life that you just have to do... And this was one of them."

Scott Morris, Marketing Manager added: "Tim was a brilliant addition to the team and it’s sad to see him go; but at least it’s not to another job. As a goodbye present the marketing boys put some ideas together and ended up getting Tim a travellers book, a compass & whistle, a Draper multitool and a rape alarm. It’s easy to recognise a good employee when you see one and that’s why we’ve told Tim to give us a ring when he’s back from travelling and looking for a job. There are no hard feelings and he fit in well with the team, so there’s no reason why we wouldn’t want him back!"

The Plumbworld website is hosted on the large Online Home Retail network at present. The network already hosts close to 50 niche-specific websites which sell a whole range of products, varying from cheap woodburning stoves all the way to Showers and shower enclosures. Online Home Retail Limited was originally Plumbworld Ltd back in 1999 and since then it has been bought by the Grafton Group PLC in 2006 and received a brand overhaul in June 2012. The business now employs close to 60 people in its purpose built warehouse and offices whilst turning over in excess of £20 million per year.
