Will the Woodstove Exchange Program Reach the UK?

There are currently a lot of schemes in the United Kingdom that promote green living. The government currently offer up to £5,000 off a brand new car that meets certain regulations and criteria in the hope that people will be persuaded to buy environmentally friendly cars. This is further pushed by government backing and investment for new refuel points across the country for green vehicles.

Woodburning-Stoves.co.uk an online retailer of woodburners and multifuel stoves strongly believe that the government should do more to promote green energy sources within the home. It has long been recognised that burning wood (if done in the correct manner) is an extremely efficient way of heating a house in comparison to gas and other heating systems.

The exchange program that runs in Prince George, B.C. incorporates some local stove retailers and this makes the program even more rewarding. Not only is it benefitting the environment, it’s also helping out local businesses and in tough economic times like this, every little helps.

The government only funds the first 55 residents who ‘qualify’ and meet the requirements, but for those 55 people it could mean the world. It’s literally the difference between running an expensive gas heating system or replacing it with a much more environmentally friendly, cheaper to run woodstove. The choice is an obvious one to make, but people can’t always afford to purchase a woodburner and get it installed due to the costs involved.

Paul Dickinson from Woodburning-Stoves added: "The government offer funding for solar panels to be installed on roofs, but there’s currently no exchange scheme or anything that will encourage people to change from their gas heating system to a more economical woodburner. Even if the stove only heated one half of the house, it would still make a big difference on heating bills over the course of winter... Hopefully people are made aware of this as soon as possible, so they are able to take full advantage of it, with or without the governments backing!"

Woodburning-Stoves.co.uk is is currently running on the new and ever-expanding Online Home Retail Network. The OHR network at present hosts around 50 separate websites which all sell a wide range of products varying from a vanity basin unit all the way to shower enclosures and garden furniture. Online Home Retail Limited originally started out as Plumbworld Ltd back in 1999 and since then it has been bought by the Grafton Group PLC in 2006 and received a major rebrand in 2012. The business now employs close to 60 people in its purpose built warehouse & offices, along with a turnover that is nearing £25 million a year.
