Carrefour du Bois 2008 to welcome sustainable-building prize winner

The 10th Carrefour International du Bois (International Timber Trade Show) will be held in Nantes (in western France) from 28 to 30 May 2008. Hermann Kaufmann, the Austrian architect who won the 2007 International Sustainable Architecture Prize, will attend the event on 28 and 29 May.

[ClickPress, Wed Mar 26 2008] The 10th Carrefour International du Bois (International Timber Trade Show) will be held in Nantes (in western France) from 28 to 30 May 2008. Hermann Kaufmann, the Austrian architect who won the 2007 International Sustainable Architecture Prize, will attend the event on 28 and 29 May.

Hermann Kaufmann is part of the Baukünstler design movement, which emerged in his native region of Vorarlberg (western Austria), an area that has a rich tradition of carpentry. Baukünstler was a forerunner of the sustainable building movement. During the event, Mr Kaufmann will talk about the key principles of the movement: ecology, sustainability and simplicity. Visitors to Carrefour du Bois will also be able to meet Konrad Merz, the Swiss engineer, who is another leading figure in the field and a renowned expert in minimalist and economical architecture.

Carrefour du Bois 2008 will welcome 500 exhibitors, representing about 30 countries, and 10,000 professional visitors. There will also be 20 conferences held on themes relating to innovations and changes in the market. Almost 100 wood varieties from Europe, North America, South America, Africa and Asia will be on display.

The Timber Techniques and Solutions area will present the latest trends in wood products for building (construction systems, cladding and engineered wood). It will be a showcase for all building professionals (design studios, architects, prime contractors and carpenters). This year, it will also host conferences connected with innovations in the sector.
