Czech consumers continued to save on juice in 2013 under continuing unstable purchasing power and they continued to choose soft drinks cautiously. Customers bought less juice because of its increasing price and the drop in consumption was also simply caused by Czech consumers showing a slight away step away from preferring these drinks. Nevertheless, Czech consumers look for quality (higher fruit and vegetable content, absence of artificial preservatives and colourants) and they opt more for branded products though they continue to seek price-advantageous actions to get them. Most branded fruit/vegetable juice was purchased at discounted/promotional prices during 2013. Economy private label products continued losing ground to premium private label.

Competitive Landscape

The domestic field with remains quite concentrated and there were no significant changes in share positions during 2013. The shares held by the major players remained more or less stable. The leading companies of Maspex Czech, Linea Nivnice, General Bottlers CR (PepsiCo), Coca-Cola HBC Czech Republic, Kofola and Rauch Praha continued to benefit from their well-established brands and promote their brands at multiple stores, successfully to attracting the attention of Czech consumers by new product launches, mainly within nectars and juice drinks. The leading companies bet more on in-store promotion and internet campaigns than on TV shots during 2013. But still there were more TV advertisements than during 2012 and a good TV campaign is perceived as the most affecting advertising way. For example, Rauch ran the TV spot on Rauch Happy Day during 2013.

Industry Prospects

Slow recovery is expected for volume sales of juice in the Czech Republic between 2013 and 2018 and it expected to perform better over the course of the forecast period than the CAGR registered during the review period. Consumption of fruit and vegetable juice was eroded by the unstable economic situation in the country under the global recession. It is probable that Czech consumers will remain careful about spending on soft drinks during the initial part of the forecast period but better performance is expected to develop during the final part in line with a more stabilised economic situation. Off-trade volume sales are set to grow by 2% to reach 153 litres in 2018.
