Baby and Child-Specific Products in Venezuela - New Market Study Published

From: Fast Market Research, Inc.
Published: Tue Jul 15 2014

Price increases above inflation in baby and child-specific toiletries, skin care and sun care drove value up in 2013. Those categories are not subject to price controls and therefore baby and child-specific firms tried to compensate for losses obtained from regulated categories. In April 2012, prices of most of the baby and child-specific shampoos, bar soaps and shower gels were fixed by the government and not allowed to change.

Competitive Landscape

Two multinationals led sales in 2013 with Johnson & Johnson and Colgate-Palmolive at top position. Johnson & Johnson markets the recognised Johnson's Baby brand but lost value share as product shortages became frequent in 2013. Import restrictions negatively affected its product portfolio and availability on shelves.

Industry Prospects

Forecast value growth will be positive at a 1% CAGR (at constant 2013 prices), but that is low when compared to other beauty and personal care categories. The baby population is expected to diminish over the forecast period whilst economic constraints will limit frequent purchases at most households. First-time parents will try to have a complete range of products for their babies but this habit will tend to change as their children grow and as they have other babies.
