Travel Accommodation in Bulgaria - New Study Released

According to research conducted by Trivago.bg, average daily room rates offered by hotels and other travel accommodation establishments in Bulgaria decreased in 2013 by 9% and the country continued to be the cheapest destination in Europe for a second consecutive year. As a result, demand and occupancy rates increased in 2013, especially in Sofia and resorts on the Black Sea coast. According to data from the Institute for Analysis and Evaluation of Tourism, the average occupancy rate for Bulgaria over the course of 2013 was 35-36%. This number looks misleadingly low, because a large portion of summer travel accommodation establishments on the Black Sea coast remain closed between October and May, while hotels in mountain resorts often close during the summer months outside of the active skiing season between December and May.
