Smoking tobacco in the Czech Republic was dominated by RYO tobacco which accounted for 96% of overall volume sales, while pipe tobacco remained a relatively small product area with a 4% share in 2013. Traditional smoking tobacco habits and the widespread preference of cigarettes among Czechs were behind this performance. In addition, demand for RYO tobacco was boosted by the constantly rising cigarettes prices at the end of the review period.

Competitive Landscape

Imperial Tobacco CR remained the clear leader of smoking tobacco, accounting for 50% of volume sales in 2013. Philip Morris CR ranked second with a 14% volume share, followed by British American Tobacco CR with 12%. Other successful players included Planta Tabak-Manufaktur Dr Manfred Obermann with a 7% volume share, JT International with 5%, and Tobacco Trading International Czechoslovakia with 3%. The remaining players did not reach more than 1% volume share in 2013.
