Overall sales of menswear grew by 1% in volume terms in 2013, as premium men's jeans rose by 3%, the best performing category alongside standard jeans which also increased by 3%. These trends reflected parallel growth in consumer spending power towards the end of the review period. Part of the growth was attributed to postponed purchases of jeans over the previous few seasons. As male consumers buy new clothing less frequently than their female counterparts, these growth rates actually demonstrate a recovery effect in 2013.

Competitive Landscape

Multinational players lead men's outerwear, however, domestic players have a relatively stronger position in men's outerwear in comparison with women's outerwear. C&A is the category leader with a 6% value share in 2013, followed by H&M with 5% share and Tesco-Global Aruhazak together with New Yorker Hungary on 3% each.

Menswear is expected to record a CAGR of 2% in volume and a 4% CAGR in value sales at constant 2013 prices over the forecast period. The highest growth in volume terms is predicted for premium men's jeans with a CAGR of 7%. The average unit price is expected to increase by 1% over the forecast period
