SFL+a Architects Announces New Principal Architect

SFL+a Architects (www.sfla.biz) has announced that Thomas W. Hughes, AIA, has joined the firm as a principal. In this position, he will be responsible for strategic client management and special projects with a focus on K-12 projects in North and South Carolina.

Tom Hughes has more than 25 years of leadership and recognized service in education facilities planning and design. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Richmond and his Masters of Architecture degree from Syracuse University. Among his professional affiliations are the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Council of Educational Facility Planners, International (CEFPI) and the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI). Hughes holds a Recognized Educational Facilities Professional certification from the Council of Educational Facilities Planners, International (CEFPI) and LEED Accredited Professional certification from the US Green Buildings Council (USGBC). He is currently the president of the North Carolina Educational Facilities Planners organization.

Hughes is focused on the role educational facilities design plays in creating exciting and stimulating learning environments. He served as Principal and head of the Educational Facilities Planning and Design Studio for Beardsley Design Associates in Auburn, NY before coming to North Carolina. Most recently, he served as principal for Moseley Architects responsible for K-12 facilities planning and design in North and South Carolina. He brings to SFL+a an exceptional expertise in educational facilities planning and a commitment to High Performance Schools design.
