Gas production from the Tamar field has made Israel self-sufficient in natural gas supplies and the country is now advancing major gas export plans. Expansions at the Tamar field will lead exports from 2016, while start up at the Leviathan field will significantly boost production from 2018.

* Israel's finance ministry has approved a taxation model for natural gas exports, a key development in the country's hydrocarbon future. The tax is to take a netback model and will include an additional mechanism guaranteeing the price of exported gas is not lower than the average price in the Israeli domestic market.
* The Tamar Partners are installing a gas compression unit at the Ashdod receiving terminal in order to boost supplies from the Tamar field. Construction is over 30% complete with start up targeted for early 2016.
* In May 2014, Union Fenosa Gas and the Tamar Partners signed a letter of intent for a 15-year 70bcm supply contract for the Damietta LNG terminal. In September, Delek announced its Tamar expansion plan, which would support pipeline exports to Egypt from 2017.
