A UK asbestos specialist has accused some asbestos removal contractors of cashing in on public concern about asbestos - and of having vested interests in finding problems.

[ClickPress, Wed Dec 21 2005] A UK asbestos specialist has accused some asbestos removal contractors of cashing in on public concern about asbestos - and of having vested interests in finding problems.

Jon Bury of Birmingham- based Asbestos Survey Projects said, "We have been involved in a case recently however, involving a national client -where it was clear that surveys had previously been written by surveyors in order to increase work for the removal side of their business.

"This is not the first case of its kind that we have encountered.

"Now that every business is required to have an asbestos register, some unscrupulous operators are inevitable cashing in.

"Our advice to any business that does not have an asbestos register currently is to get a rigorous survey undertaken as soon as possible.

"Then they should obtain quotes for removals from a number of different contractors – and preferably not from the same company that carried out the survey."
