[ClickPress, Wed Dec 21 2005] The Monts de Joux dairy in the Franche Comté region of eastern France has launched a new Hot Mont d’Or kit, which contains a Mont d’Or cheese in a ceramic cooking dish, and which also comes with a small bottle of Arbois wine. This kit will make serving the traditional dish of baked Mont d’Or cheese even easier, offering consumers the perfect oven-to-table solution.
Monts de Joux’s new line of collectible ceramic cooking dishes come in fashionable colours. The shape of the dish is designed especially for the cheese and will allow it to be prepared in the oven without the mess of melted cheese leaking through the spruce-wood box. The attractive oven-to-table dish also keeps the cheese warm while it is being served. The new kit is being introduced this winter and won the MDD/JP Hay Innovation Challenge in Paris in April 2005. According to focus groups, more than 90% of consumers are prepared to buy the product, which has a consumer appreciation rating of 8.3 out of 10.
Mont d’Or cheese comes from the mountainous Haut Doubs area of the Franche Comté region and was granted AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôleé – guaranteed origin certification) in 1986. Mont d’Or is only sold from 10 September to 10 May each year. This soft cheese is traditionally matured and sold in a spruce-wood box. The inimitable creamy texture and woody flavour of Mont d’Or have made it a favourite with cheese lovers of all kinds and, over the past 20 years, sales of Mont d'Or have increased faster than any other AOC cheese. In Franche Comté, Mont d’Or is traditionally cooked in its spruce-wood box – the perfect winter snack to share with friends. While Mont d’Or may be enjoyed cold, this authentic hot recipe is the best way to eat the cheese.
