Newly released market study: Non-Grocery Specialists in Uzbekistan

From: Fast Market Research, Inc.
Published: Mon Apr 20 2015

Non-grocery specialists can be divided into two main groups in Uzbekistan. The first are those selling personal goods and they are apparel and footwear specialist retailers, health and beauty specialist retailers, leisure and personal goods specialist retailers. Their sales were driven by the growing disposable income of consumers in 2014. Whilst consumer health products are essential items, the vast majority of other products in this group enjoyed the extra savings or earnings of consumers. Employment rates rose, creating jobs especially among the young generation. These young consumers drove sales of personal goods, particularly apparel and footwear and leisure and personal goods.

Competitive Landscape

The presence of bigger chains in non-grocery specialists made it slightly less fragmented than grocery retailing in 2014. Dori-Darmon DAK, a government-owned pharmaceutical company, accounted for the biggest share of 5% in non-grocery specialists thanks to having the biggest chain of outlets. With nearly 1,280 outlets (or 3% of total outlets in the channel), Dori-Darmon reached even far areas in Uzbekistan and managed to offer the widest range of consumer health products at competitive prices.
