Consumer electronics spending was hit hard by the e conomic challenges in 2014, with total spendi ng estimated to have contracted by 14.5 %. Peso devaluation, high inflation and technical debt default in Q214 negatively impact ed Argentine consumer purchasing power in global markets, as well as eroding confidence levels and restricting access to credit - all of which contributed to the contraction. Despite this bleak performance we believe the outlook for Argentina is stronger over the medium term, particularly from 2017- 2019 . Areas of growth we identify include smartphones, tablets, hybrid notebooks and s mart TVs . We expect to see the stabilisation begin in 2015 and 2016, before a return to faster growth from 2017 as slower inflation and stronger real growth should help the market for consumer electronics rebound . H owever, we highlight there is considerable downside risk with Argentina vulnerable to external shocks should the global economic climate become more hostile .

Headline Expenditure Projections

* Computer Hardware Sales: USD2.028bn in 2014 to USD1.915bn in 2015, a decrease of 5.6%. After a sharp contraction in demand in 2014 as a result of peso devaluation, we expect the PC market to exhibit stronger performance in 2015, but remain constrained by peso depreciation.
* AV Sales : USD2.315bn in 2014 to USD2.085bn in 2015, a contraction of 9.9%. AV sales are expected to underperform in 2015 as a result of negative impact of peso depreciation being exacerbated by the fact TV set demand was brought forward to 2014 by the FIFA World Cup.
* Handset Sales : USD2.238bn in 2014 to USD2.220bn in 2015, a decrease of 0.8%. The handset market has outperformed in recent years as smartphone sales boomed, even during the economic crisis of 2014, however we expect market value to contract as the smartphone boom slows and depreciation weighs on demand for imported devices.
