Competitive Landscape

Fragmentation was a prominent feature of cafés/bars in Italy. In 2014, independent cafés/bars continued to characterise the category, with an 89% share of value sales. Guinness Pubs remained the leading brand with a value share of 35% in chained cafés/bars. Guinness Pubs is owned by Diageo and operates through franchising. Another significant chained operator in 2014 was Autogrill with a 34% value share in chained cafés/bars with its Autogrill and Acafé brands, closely following Diageo. McCafé and festival by API - Gemeaz Cusin, followed, both with a value share of 4%.

Cafés/bars is expected to register a negative value CAGR of 1% at constant 2014 prices over the forecast period, with outlets and transactions also witnessing negative CAGRs of 1%.
