Vehicle sales in the Czech Republic increased 15.9% y-o-y in 2014, to 215,594 units. This is commensurate with our bullish view on export-led manufacturing growth filtering through to the car market via its positive effects on private consumption and gross fixed capital investment levels.

In 2015 and 2016, we expect this export-led recovery to continue gathering pace with sales growing by 19.4% to 257,525 units by end-2015 and by 7.9% in 2016. Export growth will continue to boost industrial production and employment in the country which will boost both consumer spending on cars and business investment into new commercial vehicles (CVs). At the same time growing consumer confidence favourable interest rates and a low credit burden for households will also encourage sales by increasing the availability of affordable auto loans for consumers.

Given these factors we forecast passenger car sales to expand 18.9% in 2015 followed by 8.0% growth in 2016 while CV sales will expand 24.0% and 7.5% in 2015 and 2016, respectively. We expect CVs to outperform compared to passenger cars owing to the strength of the light commercial vehicle (LCV) sub-segment, which will continue benefiting from added demand from the road freight logistics sector, especially the retailing logistics sector.

Given the recovery in car sales across the European Union in 2015 and brightening prospects for the country's commercial vehicle producers, we also expect vehicle production growth to remain positive in 2015 - growing by 7.0% - and for this growth to continue into 2016 with a 6.8% expansion. Much of this view is predicated on our ongoing bullish assessment of Skoda, one of the subsidiaries of the Volkswagen AG conglomerate, and the Toyota Motor and PSA Peugeot Citroen joint venture in the country.
