Newly released market study: Wearable Electronics in Poland

From: Fast Market Research, Inc.
Published: Mon Dec 21 2015

In 2015 wearable electronics experienced an increase in sales. Autonomous wearable electronics managed to grow by eight times in terms of volume sales compared to 2014. Smartwatches are a great accompaniment to smartphones as its main function is notifying the user about various events happening via the phone. For example, if a person receives a text message or has a missed call, the corresponding information also appears on the screen of the watch. Of course these basic functions are available in the cheapest models of smartwatches. In more expensive models users can reject calls or send a busy signal without taking the phone out of their pocket or bag.

Competitive Landscape

Samsung Electronics was the leading player within autonomous wearable electronics with a 26% volume share in 2015. This great result was achieved thanks to its wide products portfolio as well as intensive marketing campaigns and advertisements, which accompany each new model. The fastest volume sales growth was achieved by Lechpol with its Kruger & Matz brand. High growth is due to the still low base, however, in addition, this is a Polish company focusing on offering cheaper products meaning that its relatively low prices were affordable for a wider group of consumers and encouraged increasing numbers of people to try out smartwatches.

Industry Prospects

Volume sales of wearable electronics are expected to record a CAGR of 29% over the forecast period. The fastest growing category is expected to be autonomous wearable electronics. This is due to the fact that smartwatches already started offering similar features to armbands, and further declines of unit price will encourage increasing consumers to opt for smartwatches products instead of the limited functionality of armbands. However, it should be noted that the speed of growth of smartwatches depends on the development of different applications tailored to them. If there were a lack of interesting applications, smartwatches might start losing consumers’ interest.
