Sales of wearable electronics are driven by the fact that they can be connected to smartphones, tablets and other devices, allowing continuous communication amongst them. Design has also gained importance, whereby recently launched smart watches look more exclusive and are made from metal with a round display, similar to traditional watches, such as LG Electronics Nordic’s smart watches. Apart from these factors, sales were boosted in 2015 by widespread media attention, such as the increased marketing from the largest electronics and appliance specialist retailers. HUI Research even presented wearable electronics as the 2014 Christmas present of the year, which further boosted the popularity of such products amongst Swedes.

Apple entered the category with its Apple Watch in the summer of 2015, and gained huge popularity amongst Apple enthusiasts in Sweden. Samsung Electronics Nordic and LG Electronics Nordic were already present in the market, and they are seen as leaders in the evolution of wearable electronics with increased retail volume sales compared with 2014, although the market shares percentages for the two companies decreased due to the entry of Apple and other players.

Industry Prospects
