Standard-priced brands such as Uniqlo expanded aggressively in 2015. Outlets of standard-priced brands can be seen in train stations or in shopping centres. There are also independent stores in popular shopping areas. Premium-priced brands are mostly located in department stores. Compared to standard-priced brands, premium brands are not as easily available to consumers, which decreases their attractiveness. Consumers turn to standard brands of jeans because the quality is acceptable and they are sold in outlets that are more easily accessible than premium brands.

Competitive Landscape

Blue Way Co and Levi Strauss & Co respectively held the top two positions within jeans in 2015, each recording an 11% value share. Levi’s was the leading brand in 2015, but the gap to second place narrowed towards the end of the review period as the brand’s premium retail selling price in Taiwan became less attractive to consumers who had access to a range of cheaper options.
