Mobistar's launch of fixed services is necessary in a fully converged market, but it remains secondary to its core mobile service. Convergence will help its postpaid service, but the carrier will only be able to compete on price as a wholesaler, if it does not decide to acquire one of the remaining cable players in the market. The lack of fibre will hinder the fixed broadband market in the long term .Latest Updates & Industry DevelopmentsThe mobile market expanded by 200,000 subscriptions in Q415, bringing the overall yearly net additions to 508,000. This shows that despite highly saturated nature, there might be still scope for growth in the Belgian mobile market.The broadband market is dominated by DSL, and its VDSL variation, and cable, as FTTx only represents 0.2% of the market.6.4mn customers were on 3G/4G as of 2014 according to the regulator, but 4.6mn were still only using mobile voice services.
