[ClickPress, Tue Jan 03 2006] This week, on Kathleen Keating’s awarding winning podcast, The Enigma Files, you’ll find out what the Department of Energy doesn’t want you to know. Roger Blanchard, a chemistry instructor and author of The Future of Global Oil Production, comes on the show to discuss some disturbing deceptions that have been taking place for the last thirty years.
Blanchard’s book takes a hard look at the current demand for oil and natural gas, which continues to increase, as well as the fact that accurate forecasting of future production capabilities remains disturbingly out of reach. Though oil reserve data is published in such industry publications as Oil & Gas Journal and World Oil, this data comes from government information that is often woefully incomplete, hopelessly optimistic, or simply outdated. Complicating the picture is the fact that different countries define “oil reserves” in different ways.
This book brings this data together in a coherent study of the future of global oil production and its implications. An examination of U.S. capacity is followed by a look at the production futures of each of the major oil-producing regions: Western Europe, Mexico and Canada, South and Central America, Asia, the Middle East, the former Soviet Union, and Africa. Alternatives to oil are also discussed during the show. With world oil production projected to peak in approximately 2010 and natural gas production in 2020, this is a timely look at an increasingly vital global issue.
As the crisis in Russia and Ukraine continues to deepen, this interview is particularly timely. Catch this week’s broadcast of The Enigma Files at 5pm on Tuesday by visiting www.kathleenkeating.com or www.enigmapodcast.com.
