Southern Pacific superfood hits the market

Sourced straight from New Zealand’s Southern Pacific waters, Oceangreen Organics’ new nutrient-rich kelp supplement capsules are now available.

New Zealand Southern Pacific Seaweed Company founder, Daneen Morgan says the superfood capsules contain nothing but pure macrocystis pyrifera kelp, hand-harvested from the waters off Kaka Point in The Catlins area of Southland.

It is a natural superfood, proven to be one of the most nutrient rich algae on the planet, containing over 50 minerals, vitamins and trace important to human health," she says.

Kelp grows a metre a day and is the fastest-growing seaweed variety, naturally replenishing itself after harvesting. The Oceangreen Organics kelp is hand-picked from the water at the optimal time, either dusk or dawn, when the plants switch from respiration to photosynthesis. Once harvested, the macrocystis seaweed is freeze-dried near its source in Balclutha, before being sent to Oceangreen Organics’ certified manufacturer in Christchurch, where each batch is fully analysed to measure nutrition levels.

Seaweed has been used for centuries by different cultures for nutritional and medicinal purposes. Kelp is an excellent source of natural iodine - an essential mineral for healthy thyroid function, often missing from modern diets. It also provides iron, calcium, potassium, zinc, magnesium, riboflavin, folic acid, vitamin B12, fibre, plus other trace elements. Brown kelp has more calcium than many vegetables, including kale and collard greens, important for maintaining strong bones and optimal muscle function. It also has proven antioxidant properties, helps control blood pressure and promotes gut and digestive health.
