Shaw Hospitality Group wins IIDA/HD product design award

Shaw Hospitality Group, which is comprised of Shaw Hospitality for guest rooms and Design Origins for public space, received the prestigious IIDA/HD Product Award in the flooring category for Floor Architecture at HD 2008.

[ClickPress, Thu Jun 26 2008] Shaw Hospitality Group won the prestigious IIDA/HD Product Design Award in the flooring/carpeting/rug category for its Floor Architecture Collection at HD 2008 Expo & Conference. This honor salutes excellence and innovation in product design for the hospitality industry.

The award winning collection, designed by Shaw Hospitality Senior Stylist Pamela Rainey, was inspired by her series of striking black and white photographs that depict Mid-Century Modern architecture in Palm Springs. Each of the carpet samples on view in the exhibition booth’s curatorial display was paired with the corresponding black and white photograph that supplied the creative muse.

According to Vivica Bissonnette, associate at Carrier Johnson + Culture, one of the participants in the four-person judging panel, said, “What impressed us was that Shaw Hospitality delivered without compromise. The product is functional, beautiful, affordable and environmentally responsible – all of the components designers and end users are ultimately looking for. In addition, there was a meaningful story behind the design. Pamela Rainey was right on the mark.”

The Floor Architecture Collection evokes a cool aesthetic with hard edges, using minimal forms and geometric abstractions to echo the shapes and sense of futurism featured in architecture from the Mid-Century Modern period. Created for guest rooms and public spaces, the collection is available in 17 patterns ranging from a small to large scale and is custom in color. Additionally, as part of the Shaw Green Edge commitment to sustainability, the collection uses environmentally responsible Eco Solution Q® nylon, which contains a minimum of 25 percent recycled content. This fiber is 100 percent recyclable and is tufted at a facility powered by yellow grease biodiesel, a recycled restaurant by-product.
