It is also medically used as an inhibitor of protein kinase C (PKC) in brain, as irregular release of PKC leads to mania, which is an elevated version of bipolar disorder. The derivatives of lithium carbonate, such as lithium bromide, are used in air conditioning as a salt for absorption chilling. Lithium carbonate is also used for the manufacturing of lubricant grease. The lithium-based grease have good thermal stability and water resistance properties.
