Don Sahli’s approach to teaching – Art of Painting, is academic, literary and classical, scholarly and intellectual rather than technical. “My goal is to teach one to ‘see,’ not to paint by formula,” says Sahli. Since 1995, Don Sahli, an American painter and teacher trained in the “old world” Russian School of Painting, has shared his philosophy with over 500 students through 70 Studio and Plein Air workshops.
Sahli always strives to expand his horizons and push the limits, presenting and creating his work and his teaching in ways that are unexpected, fresh and stimulating. And while Sahli’s work can be seen as traditional with old world qualities that come from his background in the Russian School of Painting, it can also be seen as modern and contemporary – on the cutting edge in terms of color, design and passion.
In bringing his teaching method to DVD, Sahli choose to have Art of Painting shot with a Hi-definition camera, capturing the values that would only be seen if in a private studio workshop. The interactive technology of the DVD’s is unlike any other Art Instruction DVD available in today’s market.
