[ClickPress, Wed Aug 13 2008] There are a number of small lifestyle changes consumers can make in summer that make for a more ecologically-sound home, it has been suggested.
In an article for the Hitched website, environmental consultant and founder of Walkit.com Jamie Wallace advises on a range of easy ways to cut energy use and decrease the impact that home appliances have on the planet.
He states that summer is the perfect time to get into the habit of drying clothes outdoors as this can have a significant effect.
Using air conditioning only as and when it is needed is advised as very often simply opening the windows can have the same effect and buying a portable fan can also save money and energy.
Finally he recommends buying energy-saving light bulbs and where possible solar lights for outdoors. "You'll never have to spend another penny again to light it up," he states.
Last week, environmentalist Steve Emsley told the Evening Chronicle that installing new thermostats is the first stage in eco-proofing the home.
