[ClickPress, Wed Feb 15 2006] eDevice of France, a specialist in internet connectivity devices, has launched eDindus – a communications terminal for connecting industrial equipment to the internet over GPRS, PSTN (V90) and Ethernet networks. The terminal’s low cost, DIN rail mounting, wide range of electric power supplies and usability all mean that it is quickly and easily integrated into any industrial environment.

This machine-to-machine (M2M) industrial terminal handles all the communication protocols necessary to transfer information on a TCP/IP network and includes an FTP client, an email client and a web server. The server is entirely customisable and the software development kit (SDK) that is supplied with the eDindus allows scripts to be created and embedded in an interpreted language.
A 16-bit ATMega microprocessor manages the modbus protocol and also allows specific client modules coded in C to be embedded in the terminal. eDindus can be connected to any equipment through a wide range of hardware interfaces (RS232, RS422, RS485, analogue and digital input / output and dry switch).

eDindus may be used, for example, to connect industrial Programmable Logic Controller commands to enable periodic remote maintenance or to relay alarms. The M2M terminals may be optionally interfaced with the M2M middleware IDeMS (hosted on the internet), which takes care of archiving, analysis and transmission of data for full pools of equipment. Essentially, eDevice offers companies wishing to connect their equipment a complete end-to-end and turnkey M2M solution, through GRPS and PSTN (ISP) subscriptions.
